• My Books

I’m an internationally renowned children’s book author and illustrator and have illustrated stories from Italy, Latvia, Russia, and Sweden. My first book, The Bremen Town Musicians, was a Caldecott Honor book.

  • About Me

I’m the recipient of the 1985 Ezra Jack Keats Fellowship. I’ve taught at numerous institutions including the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Harvard/Radcliffe Seminars as well as the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and SMFA-Tufts.

  • Take a Class with Me

Experience firsthand the wonder of children’s book creation in one of my classes! You’ll work in a small-group environment to produce your own children’s book “dummy.”

  • Recent Work

Welcome to a selection of my current work. I’ve always loved drawing animals and am currently exploring the idea of animal friends. Could a fox and owl be friends? What do frogs have for tea? Just wondering…

  • Exhibitions

I’ve shown my work in exhibitions at the Concord Free Public Library, the DeCordova Museum in Massachusetts, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Umbrella Arts Center.
